2022.01.27 20:11 icebergchick Traveling to GL in the next few months via DK?

Hej everyone. I’m really longing to visit Greenland and go to Nordgrønland and Qaanaaq for the entire month of April and May. I’m targeting to potentially arrive in DK the last week of March and then stay in Ilulissat and Uummannaq for a couple weeks followed by a few weeks in Qaanaaq until mid May and return to the US.
Covid policies in the EU keep changing so it’s tough to keep up with the realities of traveling to GL via CPH these days. Can anyone provide a quick update or advice?
I’m coming from the US, fully vaccinated etc. if that’s helpful and I’m very familiar with GL and have been to Qaanaaq before. I have a place to stay but I just want to know how problematic DK might be for international travelers (as far as we know today).
Recent trip reports or insights from our friends in GL, DK and elsewhere are much appreciated. Apologies for the low effort post.

2022.01.27 20:11 cozzens Cheapest Way to Move/Ship Items Across The Country under $1k

I am planning to move across the country (west coast to east coast) in a few months and am trying to figure out the best/cheapest way to transport my belongings.
I've done this move a few times, but this is the first time I am paying for it on my own so I'm counting every penny! I do not have a lot of things. I currently live in a studio with provided furniture so I will have no furniture to ship at all. It looks like selling my car +flying is the cheapest route, but I do have a little bit more stuff than what can fit in two or 3 checked bags. (Why is it so hard to part with plastic bins and containers??)
Shipping smallelighter items like clothes through UPS is cheaper than hiring a moverenting a portable storage unit, but I worry about the safety of that as I will have to ship multiple medium-large boxes and who knows where they could end up. The largest/heaviest thing I own is a small sewing machine that I would prefer to keep over selling it.
Tl;dr: I'm moving my studio apartment across the country (no furniture) and want to know the cheapest way to go about it!

2022.01.27 20:11 NukaGrapes Anyone stay in their room all day because your parents have no respect for you?

My dad really just told me that he doesn't have to treat me with respect because he feeds and houses me and my mom told me that in any situation she has more rights to the rest of the house than I do because her name is on the mortgage and mine isn't.
They wonder why I stay in my room and avoid them. I've done it ever since I was a teenager (aka when they started treating me like a walking disappointment)

2022.01.27 20:11 AceGoK Accepted a career-changing offer today, and now I'm overwhelmed by guilt

Backend dev, about 4.5 YoE. For the first 3.5 years of my career I worked for defence agencies. Leaving them wasn't much of an issue: I felt bad for leaving my team behind, but I knew that the company is very, very stable and will make up for my loss fast and my position will be filled with a suitable replacement.
This time, though, it's different: For the past 9 months I've been working for an early-stage startup in a highly competitive field. I was among the first 2 devs in the company backend infrastructure team, and I took part in rebuilding the entire company's infrastructure, which is actually a SaaS platform, from scratch. Our product wasn't launched yet, and is still in beta testing. I've been mentored by my boss, the company's CTO, on anything regarding cloud-based tech. He and his bosses, the company's founders, also supported me when my first child was born 3 months ago, and also gave me an entire week of additional annual leave days so I could spend them with my family. Due to the fierce competition in our domain and the lack of talents in the area, the company is struggling to find new hires, especially devs.
A month ago I was approached on LinkedIn by a recruiter in a very high-profile and very succesful company, which I'll call from now on "Company X". They offered me a job as a backend dev in a new core team and, thinking that my chances of actually winning the position are slim, I decided to go on with it. I actually aced each one of the interviews (with the help of the newly gained cloud tech knowledge) and eventually they extended me an offer several days ago. While the base salary was not much higher than my current salary, the perks and benefits seemed unreal to me, and the total compenstation was far better. I spent some time negotiating and accepted their offer today.
I was stoked - joining Company X always seemed like a dream to me and I never thought that my career trajectory will lead me there so fast. Its a huge jump both professionaly and financialy, and simply having Company X in mh resume will probably launch my career to new heights. Sadly, about an hour after accepting the offer, the guilt started to sink in, as I realized that the first thing I'll do next week is to give my notice to my boss, and then watch him through my notice period while he scrambles to find another experienced backend dev. In addition, we're a tightly knit bunch of people in the office, so things will probably get weirder.
How did you cope with leaving an early-stage startup? What was your boss' reaction, and did you manage to leave on good terms? I'm really grateful for my boss' mentorship and the good vibes I had in the office, and really need some encouragement so I won't feel like a douchbag who is screwing everything for my current company.

2022.01.27 20:11 glitterfolk Question on stability with mismatched minimum tRFC.

I've installed additional RAM. Both sticks (dual channel, different brand, full specs below) have completely identical timing parameters except for minimum tRFC (260ns vs 300ns). System is stable (8 passes w. memtest86, plus several hours use on both Windows/Linux). CPU-Z shows tRFC of 240 clocks (300ns), so it's allegedly refreshing with the slower timing.
I'm aware of the risks in mixing tRFC values and why, but is this "minimum" tRFC just a lower bound that my system adjusts to? i.e. the faster stick will automatically adjust to refresh at the slower tRFC?
Or do I need to manually lower tRFC on the faster stick?
I've scoured the Internet, plenty on optimising tRFC but not what this "minimum" bound actually means.
Specs, side-by-side (I hope this looks OK on mobile):

2022.01.27 20:11 Comprehensive_Row358 Type Me

I’ve always thought of myself as a 5w4, but I also related to other type descriptions quite well. I posted this before, but I’m curious about new perspectives since I didn’t get much feedback last time and this sub seems more active now.
• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
I am 15 years old and female. My traits: introverted, introspective, independent, idealistic, analytical, curious, knowledgeable, open minded, and ambitious, indecisive, distrusting, closed off, serious, reclusive, perfectionist, and scatter-brained. A elaborative description of me would be:

• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
Nope. I think I’m neurotypical though I’ve never been to a psychologist or mental health professional, so I could never know.
• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I’m not done with my upbringing but: My family moved around a lot. It’s likely a reason I may have trouble forming connections to people, but I’ve always been a reclusive person. Some of my earliest memories are sitting by myself of the sidewalk at recess and crying when I had to be in social situations. I was also never close to my parents. They were both usually working. My mom was Christian, but my dad was agnostic. My mom raised me and my sister as Christian. There was a time I wanted to be a lawyer(when I was around 10 years old) and I would always ask to debate with my parents. Talk of God came up and I eventually became agnostic from that. My parents were also pretty strict when it came to grades. It’s likely a factor in why I’m perfectionistic when it comes to school today. I do have many contrasting views with my parents that I’m not afraid to express. I usually only attempt to break rules I find unfair when I find it unlikely I will be caught though.
• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I don’t have a career as I’m only 15, but I probably want to be a software engineer, physicist, or physician.
• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
I wouldn’t mind at all. I spend a lot of time alone and I’m used to it.
• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
In my free time I code(web development or coding problems), read, and browse the Internet. The only sport I’m good at is track. I currently run the 100m and 200m at my school.
• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I’m very curious. I pretty much spend the day satisfying my curiosity. I have a 5:1 brainstorming to executing ideas ratio, so I definitely don’t execute most of the ideas I think about. I try to learn about finance, computer science, philosophy(mainly metaphysics and ethics), politics, medicine, physics, astronomy, music, and art.
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
I prefer to work alone usually, but when I’m in groups I prefer to be in a leadership position if I’m competent enough on the project. I’m pretty indecisive and not a people person, but I think my fairness, honesty, and logical attitude would help me as a leader. I’d sum up my leadership style as democratic. I’d try to consider group opinion, but also push for my own ideas if I think they are the best.
• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
I’m pretty uncoordinated and pretty much suck at anything that requires it including most sports and video games. I don’t like working with my hands.
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
I don’t really know if I’d describe myself as artistic. I’d say I’m more “sciency” but I’ve tried making music, writing poems, writing a book, drawing, etc but those are my most short lived endeavors. I do love listening to music and going to museums.
• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
I mainly use the past to reflect and learn from or maybe laugh at. I don’t think too much about the present. I mainly spend it trying to improve the future. I’m always thinking about and envisioning my future as well as that of humanity in general. I assuage my worries about the future by trying to predict it and/or change it.
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
I help them if it isn’t inconvenient for me and it isn’t extremely immoral or something like that. I guess I do it because I’m not losing anything and they are gaining something so why not?
• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
Need is a strong word, but I do try to make sense of everything.
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
I’m fairly efficient and productive. I always work before play and one of my favorite feelings is knowing I accomplished a lot at the end of the day.
• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
Not really, I have a leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone attitude.
• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
Programming and reading about various subjects are my main hobbies. I like them because they are useful hobbies and I don’t know- they cause stimulation of dopamine in my brain???
• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
Probably memorization, logic, and creativity (in no particular order)
• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
If I’m dealing with something I even mildly care about, I plan long term but in the big picture. I’m very comfortable with improvisation and I don’t mind messing up a bit.
• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
To win a Nobel prize or do something groundbreaking in whatever field I choose
• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
My main fears are never achieving my dreams and/or potential, being ignorant, death, being “stuck” in life or losing control, etc. I hate close mindedness and general injustices like murder, rape, discrimination, etc.
• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
I probably feel the best after succeeding at something or understanding a concept I initially struggled to understand.
• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
Probably me crying in my room listening to music while distracting myself with a project
• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
I’m very unattached to reality and I daydream a lot. I miss the most obvious things right in front me. I am not aware of my surroundings when I daydream.
• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
I’d wonder why I am in a blank empty room and probably start to freak out.
• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I often take a long time to make even minute decisions. I change my mind frequently and often question myself, but whether I change my mind depends on the outcome of the decision.
• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
My emotions are strong when they are there, but are fairly fleeting. My emotions are fairly important to me. I’m closed off about them and don’t rely on them to make decisions, but I’m very introspective and desire to understand my emotions and myself.
• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
No. If I disagree with someone, I usually ask why they think they do and probe them on their logic. If I’m in a particularly impatient mood or their beliefs are outlandish enough, I’ll just tell them their opinion is bullshit.
• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
Not really. I only break a rule if it is a bad one and I likely won’t face a consequence. I might break a rule even if I will face a negative consequence if I feel strong enough about it. I don’t believe in breaking rules or challenging authority for the sake of it. I value autonomy and individuality, but I think there is a place for fair, just authority.

2022.01.27 20:11 Rdxenti Are the Rolands more “durable”?

So, I live in a remote area of the west about six hours away from the nearest accordion store.
Because it will be difficult for me to get the instrument tuned or repaired out here, I was thinking about ordering a Roland FR-1xb to learn on. Am I correct that I won’t need to worry as much about reeds and wax and temperature and tuning and the general “fussiness” of the instrument with one of these versus something more conventional?
Also, since I don’t have a local store, I was considering GC or SW since they have 24-month financing, but then I found Thomann which I’ve heard is reputable, and it’s $1000 less from them because we don’t have to pay VAT here. Are they really reputable?

I don't want any of the fancy and bullshit in them but I got to try them out today and I really like the sound, the huge bass boost isn't usually something I'm into but it's very tastefully done in these. I hate Bluetooth and I hate having active electronics in them. would it conceivably be possible to wire the drivers straight to the input jack and tear out the rest of the electronics?
